ArchivalResource

Physician certification appeals, 1893-1894.

These records document Governor John Young Brown's role as chief executive and final authority in the certification of physicians to practice in Kentucky. Physicians who wished to practice in the state were required by law to obtain a license from the State Board of Health; if this was refused, a final appeal could be made to the governor. Included are appeals from several doctors whose requests for licenses had been denied by the Board of Health, with arguments and endorsements from both sides, and with the governor's final decision.
